bit.ly-- quick and easy url shortening tool
When using social media (especially Twitter), you will find that shortening long urls makes them easier to share. I recommend bit.ly, as it's quick, free, and easy. An account is not necessary but if you create an account, you can link it to your Twitter and/or Facebook account so the updates you post in bit.ly are shared immediately with your other networks.

Jing-- free screencasting and imagecapture tool
Make your online communications visual with Jing. Not only will it save you time but you'll be amazed at how much more clearly complicated technical answers are to convey through a video screencast, rather than a text-based email. Aside from increased productivity, your students will be able to hear answer their questions, increasing your social presence and motivating them to stay engaged with your class.

"Wordle is a toy for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you like. You can print them out, or save them to the Wordle gallery to share with your friends."
